There was a lookout man in the crow's nest.
The lookout man made no report prior to my
seeing the rocks.
I was satisfied with the fix off the Ninepins.
The course I set was intended to clear Chilang
Port by about 8 miles. I have made 50 eimilar voyages.
I have experienced inshore sets but never more
than 2 miles. It was impossible that night to obtain
a star time azimuth. On my visits to the bridge I
frequently checked the steering compass with the
standard compass. (Scrap Log produced in Court to
verify Compass Errors).
The ship was too close to turn to starboard.
After stranding there was 42 feet aft and 20
feet by the bridge front bulkhead.

There is the first casualty with which I have
been concerned. I was going to retire on September
15th.
